Week 3 Rankings (25 - 31 July 2011)

This week, the Denver Post matched the record it set in week one, regained the weekly lead, and increased its overall lead over every other news source. The Washington Post had a strong showing which helped it leap a couple of spots on the overall leaderboard. The Rochester (MN) Post-Bulletin also had a strong showing, in relation to its previous weeks, and made a big jump in the weekly rankings. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune & The Raleigh News & Observer both returned to previous levels after a big jump last week, while the Houston Chronicle maintained the level it jumped to during that same week. The Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Portland Oregonian are newcomers to the rankings this week. The St Petersburg Times and the San Angelo Standard Times both dropped back to zero after making an appearance last week. As before, the news sources will be listed in order of their rank as far as how many alerts they sent. In parentheses to the right of the news source will be as follows: (Total Alerts This Week)(Change in # of Alerts from Previous Week)(Previous Week's Rank)(Change in Rank from Previous Week)(Overall Rank)(Rank by Circulation, where applicable)

Moving on to the Topics rankings…

Politics strengthened its lead in these rankings, and Economy was brought into the upper level, due to the debt-ceiling debates. World & Sports maintained their respective overall ranks, though World's weekly alert totals have decreased at every split. I added a "Celebrity" topic, as I think it will benefit to separate that from the others. Entertainment, Legal, & Space all dropped down to zero after a couple of weeks with alerts. Corporate & Health spent a second week without any alerts. In parentheses to the right of the topic will be as follows: (Total Alerts This Week)(Change in # of Alerts from Previous Week)(Previous Week's Rank)(Change in Rank from Previous Week)(Overall Rank)

1. Politics..(14)(+6)(2) (+1)(1)
2. Economy...(13)(+9)(4) (+2)(3)
3. World.....(7) (-2)(1) (-2)(2)
4. Sports....(4) (-1)(3) (-1)(4)
5. Nature....(2) (0) (6) (+1)(6)
   Terrorism.(2) (0) (6) (+1)(6)
7. Military..(1) (-2)(5) (-2)(6)
   Celebrity.(1) (+1)(NR)(*) (12)
