This 3-1 victory in the semi-finals put women's soccer back in the lead for alerts, with 11. I can't wait to see how the Breaking News-letters blow up when they actually win the whole thing.
First to report was CNN
Tied for Second, both with their first showing, 1 minute later, were the Houston Chronicle & Seattle Times
Fourth, after another minute, was the Chicago Tribune
Fifth, 4 minutes later, was the Raleigh News & Observer
The Los Angeles Times showed up in Sixth place, after 2 more minutes
Fox News "broke" the story only 3 minutes later, in Seventh place
After 2 minutes more, Eighth to appear, the Denver Post peeked in
In Ninth, another first-time participant, and my home state's newspaper, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune arrived after another 5 minutes
Tenth place, 17 minutes later, went to the Boston Herald
And coming in last, but still in there another 26 minutes later, was the Richmond Times-Dispatch
Oddly enough, even with all the newcomers, only one was not on the original list of newsletters to which I've subscribed.
Since I’ve been deployed out out here to Afghanistan, I’ve become a bit of a news junkie. I’ve subscribed to newsletters of all sorts from most of the country’s major newspapers, as well as a few others around my home state of MN, and also places where I’ve been stationed. One newsletter that it seems every newspaper website has is a “Breaking News” -letter, and I’ve found it interesting how quickly some things reach my inbox.
